Kingshurst and Babbs Mill RIG

The Kingshurst and Babbs Mill Resident Implementation Group (KH&BM RIG) was set up be North Solihull Partnership (NSP) following the commencement of Neighbourhood Planning in the area. The meetings are held once a month for local residents within the KH&BM Neighbourhood Plan area at the new Kingshurst Primary School. The residents who form the RIG are encouraged to actively engage with the regeneration process by feeding in ideas, suggestions and proposals.

The RIG assists the regeneration project by giving advice on the real and perceived impact that the Neighbourhood Plan proposals will have on local residents.  The residents also act as a sounding board for any proposals the partnership may put forward.  They are also encouraged to provide ideas for local projects and initiatives.

The aim of the group was to involve local residents in the regeneration of their area, so that the regeneration was being done in partnership with the community and not just done to them without any consultation on their thoughts and aspirations. It is hoped that such methods will help foster feelings of pride and ownership of a neighborhood and tackle other social issues of regeneration, not just the physical structure of the building (homes, shops and schools).

The KH&BM RIG is now a fully constituted group with Alvin Follows as its Chairman and John Kimberley as Vice Chairman. A representative of NSP still attends meeting to help facilitate and answer questions on the progress of the regeneration and the group also discuss and address other social and community issues within the area in addition to this.
