- The Vision
Regenerating North Solihull is a 15-year project to transform the three wards of Chelmsley Wood, Smith's Wood and Kingshurst & Fordbridge by improving homes, shops, schools, health and community facilities, transport, the environment and creating jobs.
This is one of the UK's biggest ever regeneration programmes and in it's lifetime aims to deliver:
- More than 8,000 (4000 net) new homes
- A tenure mix of 60% private, 30% social and 10% shared ownership
- 10 New, state-of-the-art primary schools,
- 5 vibrant new village centres
- New health care facilities
- New leisure facilities
- Employment and training opportunities
- A positive change to almost 40,000 people's lives
- Mixed use developments
- Local environment and transport improvements
- Massive employment opportunities
So why are these changes needed? click here
Strategic Framework
The strategy that underpins all of the regeneration is called the strategic framework. This strategy which was originally developed in 2004 was reviewed in late 2008 and we spoke to residents and stakeholders about our findings in early 2009.
Infrastructure
Our aim is to make it easier to travel around the area by foot, bicycle, bus and car. To do this, we need to create new roads so that Village Centres are linked to each other and the nearby town centres.
Green Space
In North Solihull there are a lot of play areas and open spaces and we know they are really important to local communities. But a lot of them are of poor quality and do not meet the diverse needs of the community.
How it works
The Regenerating North Solihull project works almost like a recycling system. Funding is generated through Solihull Council selling vacant land to Bellway Homes. The profit Bellway creates through the sale of these homes is then ploughed back into the project, providing the funding for new primary schools, Village Centres and improvements to infrastructure and green space.
Design Code
With so many aspects of the project needing to be worked up at the same time, we brought all of the design and development consultants together to share ideas and formulate a Design Code.
